A Surprise Proposal at Rosy Mound: A Lake Michigan Love Story

There are some love stories that remind me exactly why I became a photographer, and Emma and Kaleb’s surprise proposal at Rosy Mound is one I’ll never forget.

From the moment we began planning, Kaleb was intentional about every detail. He wanted the proposal to feel genuine, intimate, and completely centered around the two of them. Rosy Mound was the perfect place—a location filled with quiet beauty, winding boardwalks, rolling dunes, and the peaceful shoreline of Lake Michigan.

He got down on one knee, pulled out the ring, and asked Emma to spend forever with him.

The look on Emma’s face said everything before she even spoke. Complete surprise, overwhelming joy, and happy tears filled the moment as she covered her face, trying to take it all in. Watching her realization unfold was something so genuine that it couldn’t have been scripted. Those are the moments I love capturing most—the ones that happen naturally and become memories you’ll relive every time you look back at your photos.

And of course… she said yes.

The nervous anticipation instantly turned into laughter, hugs, and the biggest smiles as Emma and Kaleb soaked in the fact that they were officially engaged. Those first few minutes after a proposal are some of my favorites because the excitement is so real. Nothing is posed. Nothing is forced. It’s simply two people celebrating the beginning of a brand-new chapter together.

Afterward, we wandered through Rosy Mound together, documenting their first moments as fiancé and fiancée. The soft evening light wrapped around them beautifully, and every photograph reflected exactly who they are—joyful, relaxed, and completely in love.
